BOOKER T. WASHINGTON
TEACHER, SPEAKER AND LEADER
Assoc. of Educational Publishers 2008 Winner, Distinguished Achievement Award
"I had so much fun designing the book. Your artwork is amazing, so it was pretty easy. Thanks, and I hope to get the chance to work with you again."
~ Hilary Wacholz, Picture Window Books
Research — whether it's about other times, other cultures or other species — it's all interesting to me. So instead of flinching at non-fiction work, I get happy.
Children love non-fiction, too. They're soaking up all they can find out about the world — discovering what interests them. My goal is helping the story connect with its readers, to be meaningful at their particular age.
THE FIRST AMERICAN FLAG and WRITING THE U.S. CONSTITUTION
"Although the topics are nothing, ahem, revolutionary, these books do a good job of packing lots of information into a compact format. Moreover, it is nice to see these subjects truly written at the right level for primary grade readers.
. . . The acrylic-paint-and-colored-pencil artwork is especially appealing—sturdy yet inviting."
~ Ilene Cooper, Booklist
SEQUOYAH AND HIS TALKING LEAVES
by Wim Coleman, Pat Perrin, illustrated by Siri Weber Feeney and published by Red Chair Press
. . . The retelling respects all of its characters and never descends into didacticism. The script should be easy to stage; however, Feeney’s attractive pastel illustrations complement the dialogue nicely, creating a hybrid picture book/script.
"Siri’s illustrations breathe life into our pages, engaging student readers and unlocking their imaginations, a core value at TCI. Her skill in interpreting specifications and understanding our classroom goals make her a prized asset, one with whom it’s always a pleasure to work."
